Coleseed

Coleseed (Brassica napus) is a bright yellow blossoms plant which is grown and cultivated on a large scale worldwide. Coleseed is mainly grown for the production of animal feed, vegetable oil for human consumption and biodiesel.

Coleseed has been known since 4,000 BC. It is native to India. However, there is also an assumption that coleseed originates from the Mediterranean. Coleseed was introduced to West Europe in the XIII century and it became a main oleaginous crop.
Leading producers of coleseed are China, Canada, Germany, France, etc.

In modern grain producing coleseed is determined as more than necessary because of the great demand on the European market, relatively favourable soil and climate conditions for growing the crop in Bulgaria, the available precise equipment for the agronomic events held and harvesting the crops as well as having its share in the crop-rotation to replace the “overloading” corn.
